International Airport in Jakarta

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta has an important role as the main gate to Indonesia, especially to Jakarta. It’s located at Tangerang, Banten Province, 20km away from Jakarta. Jakarta still has another airport which is Halim Perdanakusuma Airport with limited function to serve state and military affairs flight. There’re two main terminals at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Terminal One serves all domestic flight except the flight by Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines, and Terminal Two serves all international flights as well as domestic flights by Garuda Indonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines. Terminal One and Terminal Two occupied a different building which are separated one another, and therefore the management of Soekarno-Hatta Airport provides shuttle bus for free as a transportation facility between both terminals.
- To reach International Airport in Jakarta, you could use taxi or Damri Bus which provided specially as transportation facility from the airport to Jakarta and vise versa. When you get a taxi there will be charges for three items: the taxi fare, toll charge and surcharge fee. Recommended taxies to charter are Silver Bird, Blue Bird or Pusaka (another taxi under Blue Bird management), Express and Putra.
- Damri buses from or to the airport are coming and going to several destinations that covers Gambir Station, Blok M, Kemayoran, Rawamangun, Kampung Rambutan, Pasar Minggu, Lebak Bulus, Tanjung Priok, Bogor, Cikarang, Merak, Bekasi and Serang. The destination is written on the windshield, so if you want to ride Damri make sure you get in to the right bus. The bus fare is around Rp15,000 to Rp20,000 depends on the destination.
- If you’re a backpacker and plan to find cheap hotel or motel at around Jalan Jaksa or Jalan Wahid Hasyim at Central Jakarta area, it’s recommended to take Damri Bus which route is to Gambir Station. Once you arrive at Gambir Station you can continue your trip to Jalan Jaksa or Jalan Wahid Hasyim by bajaj or taxi. The distance from Gambir Station to Jalan Jaksa/Wahid Hasyim is about 3-4km.
- There’re Bus Stand and Taxi Stand available at International Airport in Jakartawhere you can stand and wait for Damri Bus or taxi. Please ensure you stand at the right place. Please ask the airport officer if you’re not sure where they’re.
- When you get out of the airport exit gate you would see many people try to greet and persuade you to use their taxi service or other services. We do not recommend you to take any of their services.
- If you plan to continue flying to Bali once you touch International Airport, in Jakarta please take the shuttle bus to go to Terminal One for domestic flight, unless you intend to fly by Garuda or Merpati Airlines.
