The religions in Indonesia are recognized in 5 religions, but the majority is the Islam. With almost 82-88% of the Indonesian people are Muslim, Indonesia becomes the largest Muslim – majority in the world. Islam in Indonesia is quite tolerant, especially for the Muslim who live in the big cities in Indonesia. However, the manifestation of Islamic faith is considerably stricter in the countryside, and in Aceh.
Besides Islam, the religions in Indonesia are Roman Catholicism (3%), Protestantism (5%), Buddhism (1%) and Hinduism (2%). The people with certain religions are sometimes concentrated in certain island, for example, the Hindus people are in Bali, and Christians are in east Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi. Besides the recognized religions, there is also the animism belief practiced all over the country. The strict Muslim will reject the casual Javanese culture incorporated with the animism rites that form the practices of notionally Islamic believers.
