When we were child, I heard a story about a tree that can speak and live like human. Sometimes the parents told those stories to their little kids to avoid accident because kids like to eat anything, including the seed of fruits, so that to avoid that the parents make up the stories. But what happen if that story become real?.It is a true story, that a man named Dede, in Indonesia live like a tree. People call him as a tree man. This treeman Indonesia actually has been in the news since last year. Even it’s in some local televisions.
However, the treeman Indonesia again become the headline since an American doctor wants to bring him to the United States. He tooks blood sample from the treeman Indonesia for the research to help him and find the medicines for him to cure. I was a bit disappointed to Indonesian government because it seems to me they always late in responding to news like this. When foreign people or government pay attention to this case then the Indonesian government started to give him attention. I don’t like this fact, and I don’t like to talk bad about my own country, but that is the fact. But I was glad when I heard that Sity Fadilah Supari, the Minister of Health finally come to visit the treeman to see his condition.The treeman Indonesia now become very popular since this new brought to the international media by the Discovery Channel. Not long after that, they bring a specialist of dermatology from United States, Anthony Gaspary.
Dr. Anthony Gaspary was so surprised when the first time he met Dede. He said he can’t explain what kind of disease that makes Dede suffered. But clearly in this case he does not understand what the reason of Indonesian government for not allowing Dede to exit Dede from Indonesia.
Anthony Gaspari said that his people/government are interested to bring Dede to their country (United States) if only the Indonesian government could help in licensing matters such as passport, visa, and so forth. However, the Head of Central Department of Communication and Public Health, Lily Sriwahyuni Sulistiyowati, said that the health department will not give permission to anyone to bring Dede to the foreign country. This is because Dede disease is kind of specimens of the disease that need to be inspected by Indonesianhealth professionals.Why is that? I think in this case is good opportunity for Dede to be brought to abroad to receive medical treatment and find if the doctor in United States probably can help him. I understand that Indonesian people are a little bit skeptical when it comes about the USA.
But I think that’s not the problem. At this time we do not have to think what will they do to to the virus or blood sample which is taken from the treeman. I think this time we should think whether the disease could be cured? Are medical facilities in Indonesia is enough to do research specimens for this disease? And whether the government, in this care health department, is serious enough to handle this problem?
For you to know that Dede was treated in the hospital in year 1996. The local doctors have used the treatment, start from exfoliate the hard water with 80 percent, were given vitamin A, an operation part of the whole body of the wart to grow, until the surgical power. However, it does not seem to be successful. Evidence now news again rise to the surface!I think here we need to think realistically. If the purpose is good, why the government disallow him to take to overseas if the than here in Indonesia.It’s not my intention to ridicule and humiliate the ability of my own nation. I just worry if it is the government is not really serious to help the tree man, then the only thing that he can do at this time is doing “The Show of Weird People.” Yes, that’s the truth, Dede is trying to survive. I hope whatever the decision it will be the best for the treeman Indonesia, and I hope he can be cured as soon as possible.
